These are the young adult and middle grade books for September 2024 currently waiting in a neat little pile in my book room to be read. And there may be other YA & MG books that find their way onto my pile just because. But I’m definitely committed to these. So read along with me and then look for these young adult and middle grade book reviews coming this month to comment and tell me what you think.
My YA & MG TBR for September 2024
I’ve already reread Uglies by Scott Westerfeld and I had to quickly binge A Thousand Heartbeats by Kiera Cass. This month it’s all about mystery and intrigue in my young adult and middle grade books for September 2024. What books are in your TBR?
September 2024 Reading Pile of Young Adult Books
These Deadly Prophecies by By Andrea Tang
A teenage sorcerer’s apprentice must solve her boss’s murder in order to prove her innocence in this magical murder mystery.
Twelfth Knight by Alexene Farol Follmuth
I’m always a sucker for Shakespeare and Alexene’s modern retelling of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, in which Viola is a high school student who finds solace in an online role-playing game called Twelfth Knight.
The Grandest Game by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
This is the first book in a new series set in the same world as The Inheritance Games. I’m beyond excited to devour this. Seriously, get in my belly.
September Reading Pile of Middle Grade Books
The Misfits #1: A Royal Conundrum by Lisa Yee
Olive Cobin Zang has . . . issues. And they mostly aren’t her fault. But when she’s suddenly dropped off at the strangest boarding school ever, she finds herself making unlikely friends as she solves a crime.
Max in the House of Spies: A Tale of World War II by Adam Gidwitz
The first book in a duology, Max in the House of Spies is a thought-provoking World War II story from Adam Gidwitz —it’s fast-paced and hilarious, with a dash of magic and a lot of heart.
Paper Dragons: The Fight for the Hidden Realm by Siobhan McDermott
The first book in the series, I’m a sucker for a great fantasy adventure. An outsider in her village above the cloud sea, 12-year-old orphan Yeung Zhi Ging’s only hope of escape is to win the single invitation to train as a Silhouette: an apprentice to the immortals.

Middle Grade Books on my NEED Now List:
Diary of a Wimpy Kid Hot Mess by Jeff Kinney
Releases Oct 22, 2024. The pressure is building for Greg Heffley, who discovers that when you mix heaps of family, a tiny beach house, and sweltering heat, it’s a recipe for disaster. I love Wimpy Kid. Some may say he’s milking it. I don’t care. They are always funny.
